Even where it's surprising to find it, in a classic Hollywood's comedy of the sixties, we can appreciate a warm hommage to woman's foot. In this case, the little feet of the sweet Kim Novak, sex-symbol n.1 of these happy years. She is involved in a complete seduction tour, all around her shoes and her feet, with explicit images that great Austrian director Billy Wilder found the way to insert, nobody does know how, bypassing production's censors.
The film is, obviously, Kiss Me Stupid! (1964).
Kim Novak (Polly, wife for a night), Dean Martin (Dino, the Italian crooner)
and Ray Walston (Orville Jeremiah Spooner, the composer) are ready to
start their crazy night
Polly takes from the kitchen a strange wine bottle.
Why no one in the production team noticed this "strange" shape?
The strange bottle now is owned by Dino ...
... and Dino starts his seduction from Polly's feet
firts step done: the high heel shoe is gone ...
Dino is in heaven, Polyy is beside him, her legs are naked and she
is barefoot ...
Polly's shoe can be used now also for a different scope ...
Polly's shoe is full of wine ...
and now the Don Giovanni can use it in an inappropriate way ...
... with little surprise in the tender housewife ...
but he wants her in the proper way ...
unfortunately her husband is still playing the piano (he's trying
to sell a song to the famous singer, the title of the song is "Sofia",
remembering Sofia Loren, Italian ...)
but Dino is interested anly in his (fake) wife ...
... and he's using as a glass also the other shoe, and Polly is amused
... while the real wife, Zelda (Felicia Farr) is coming back ...
and she'is a beauty too ...
In her home they are dancing ...
... and Dino is watching Polly dancing, with the strange bottle
in his hands
(Does this scene remembers another one? Sure, Mickey Rourke
in "9 and 1/2 weeks", but in the 1986 movie at least they were two ...)
The problem is to remain in two ...
Polly does not know what to do
Kim Novak at her best ...
... is waiting the choice, the bottle is now in her hands ...
two choices for Polly
After other changes of scene (let watch the film ...) Polly is now alone
with Orville, and walks barefoot in "her" home; she is now a perfect
sexy wife ...
... and the symbol is now owned but her husband, that is showing it
to his wife (alone, finally ...)
and they go to their bedroom
(with Polly's barefoot still in close-up)
And the poor Dino? Has he remained alone? And Zelda, what did she
do after she discovered her husband with another woman (and a man)?
Alone she too? Not at all. Dino met casually Zelda, and Zelda, almost drunk,
has not refused him, no. So he at least had his Southern house wife.
And even Orville understands, in the very last scene, that this night
was very special not only for him ...
